#homecooked #rajasthanifood #bangalore rajasthani food, vegetarian, non vegetarian, besan gatta, sev tamatar, lahsuni bhindi, tangdi kebab, rathodi chicken, junglee maas, laal maas, makki ki roti, roti, kheer, inspiring story Hailing originally from Surajpura Lotiyana village in Ajmer district of Rajasthan, Jithender and his wife, Renuka Tak, moved to Bengaluru with their young children having lost their automotive shop in the Ahmedabad earthquake of 2001. Facing financial difficulty, a chance encounter with a visiting relative at an exhibition who was looking for food to be catered led to the couple setting up a home-cooked meal enterprise. A family-run operation, they would shop, cook and deliver the food themselves, with their children lending a hand with the chores too. However, work from home and the current situation bought their livelihood to a standstill yet again! Not one to give up though, this family has set-up a small one-table eatery in the east Bengaluru neighbourhood of Kaggadasapura, primarily to serve as a takeaway point for their delicious home-cooked Rajasthani fare, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. I drive here to chat with the couple, watch them cook a laal maas, sev tamatar and other dishes, before tucking into a delicious meal coupled with the warm hospitality of this Rajput family that has an inspiring, never-give-up attitude. Hope you enjoy this episode, stay safe and happy eating! Tandoori Chicken Tangdi Not cooked in a tandoor, but deep-fried and then fire-cooked with some ghee and spices, the chicken legs, marinated for hours in a spice mix, make for a juicy, char-smoked appetiser. Rs. 120 (usd 1.6) for 2 pieces. 8/10 Lahsuni Bhindi Fry Cooked with plenty of browned garlic, green chillies, this is a flavourful, though slightly spicy bhindi fry. Rs. 90 (usd 1.2) 7.5/10 Sev Tamatar Spicy sev (chickpea fritters) are cooked in a tangy, thick tomato gravy that tones down the heat of the sev. The sev garnish also adds an element of crunch and spiciness to this simple but tasty preparation. Rs. 90 (usd 1.2) 8/10 Besan Gatta Spiced chickpea dumplings boiled and then cooked in a creamy, mild and slightly tangy, yoghurt based gravy, this is a traditional Rajasthani vegetable delicacy. Rs. 100 (usd 1.4) 8.5/10 Malai Chicken Chicken, slow cooked with spices in milk that eventually thickens to cream (malai) and hence its name. The thick gravy is fortified with cashew nut paste, and smoked just before serving, adding to the richness and depth of flavour of this delicious chicken gravy Rs. 170 (usd 2.3) 9/10 Rathodi Chicken Curry A simple everyday sort of chicken curry. You can taste the coriander and the sweet aroma of the whole spices that have flavoured the curry. Rs. 160 (usd 2.2) 8/10 Junglee Maas A derivative of the Laal Maas cooking process, the meat is removed before the stock is added to make the gravy. The meat is rich in the near caramelised sweetness of the onions, the warming heat of the mathania chillies and the aromatic spices that linger on the palate. Rs. 220 (usd 3) 10/10 Laal Maas Similar in flavours to the junglee maas but fortified with meat stock, this curry may get its colour from the Mathania chilli, but it is quite gentle in the manner in which it greets your palate. Rs. 220 (usd 3) 9.5/10 Kheer Rs. 70 (usd 0.9) 8.5/10 Kripal Amanna, Gourmet On The Road, Food Lovers TV TIMINGS: 1pm to 1030pm Note: Most of the dishes here are prepared fresh to order, so it is advisable to call at least half an hour to an hour ahead and order to minimise wait time.
