Originally a condiment store in 1977, Veena stores has amassed a loyal customer base over three decades of service. He samples some of the more popular items on the menu such as the Idli Vada, the Chow Chow Bath and a unique Sweet Pongal. GOURMET ON THE ROAD RATING IDLI the idlis have an inviting fragrance. soft but with just enough texture. the chutney packs a punch with coriander, chilli, and curry leaves. exactly what you need with the soft idlis. 9/10 Rs 45 VADA vada is crisp, and crunchy, with a porous inside. very mildly seasoned with tiny flecks of coconut. definitely needs the chutney for that flavour boost. 8/10 KHARA BATH soft, creamy, and flavourful, even without the onions and garlic. this khara bath packs all the flavour of the tomatoes, curry leaves, and chillies. its taste lingers on your palate. 8.5/10 KESARI BATH the kesari bath itself is not too sweet. the plump raisin gives it a burst of sweetness and the cashews add a toasty flavour! 8/10 Rs 35 for a plate of chow chow bath KHARA PONGAL A mellow-tasting pongal made of rice, with a certain creaminess that comes perhaps from lentils. Elevated with the sharp bite of whole peppercorns and the lingering flavour of cumin, and comes alive on the palate with the chutney. 7/10 JAGGERY PONGAL The jaggery is very evident in this short-grained rice dish, as is the edible camphor that immediately engulfs the palate. A touch of lentils add some creamy graininess to the bite. 8.5/10 Rs 35 for a plate of sweet and khara pongal COFFEE the coffee is nice, thick, and strong. always the best end to a tiffin breakfast.
