In this he saw an opportunity to showcase to Bengaluru the village rendition of this quintessential Maharashtrian street food staple, an approach that conveys delicious, spicy flavours with minimal fuss. And so Gavran Misal was born, with ingredients sourced from Kolhapur, given his family’s lineage in the food grains business. Here, the tari, the spicy rasa (gravy) at the heart of the dish, is cooked over a wood fire, thereby also imbuing this modest eatery, with a rustic smokey appeal, where regulars wolf down the misal pav and vada pav, the only two items served here in addition to kokum and taak (buttermilk) to wash things down.
