In those days, the denizens of (then) chilly Bangalore were hesitant to eat ice creams afraid they may fall ill, and thus began a long and arduous journey of educating people to appreciate and enjoy these frozen treats. The effort seems to have paid off over the years, making this vegetarian ice cream parlour a household name amongst old Bangaloreans. From multiple outlets, Mantap has now scaled back to only one store in Seshadripuram, where Mantapa Upadhyay, (as he is popularly known) dreams up combinations that he personally puts together each morning with dairy rich ice creams that are sourced from a premium ice cream supplier. In this conversation with him and his family, I savour a range of his delectable creations - from traditional pure organic jaggery, guava chilli, to inspirations like the fruit fusion, red velvet cake, and classics like rich mango cream and caramel, and a couple of delicious faloodas too. This store is a definite must-visit if you love ice cream.
