#anandbiryani #hoskote #bangalore popular biryani shop, anand dum biryani, hosakote, hoskote, bangalore, mutton biryani, kaal soup, chicken fry, anand biryani shop, biryani trail, inspiring stories Anand was only 14 when he opened a tiny shop to sell idli and chitranna to support his family in his village, Hoskote, located about 40kms from Bengaluru. Customers requested him to sell biryani too on Sundays. What began as a tiny 2-kilo experiment 21 years ago has grown today to a massive kitchen that sells nearly a thousand kilos of mutton biryani on Sundays. And in doing so has placed Hoskote on the map for biryani lovers who don't seem to mind waking up at an unearthly hour just to get here to stand in a queue for an hour or two for a plate of the fabled Hoskote biryani that runs out by 9am and is sold only on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. I drive out to Hoskote at 4am to find out what makes this biryani such a craze. Stay safe and happy eating! Mutton Biryani The dominant flavours in this biryani are that of the fresh ingredients, the naati ginger, garlic, coriander, mint etc., followed by a veil of the aromatic spices. Every grain of rice is imbued with its flavours, and the meat is a combination of some soft, juicy pieces and some on the bone, that calls for a bit of effort to get to every bit of it, some fat included. The spicing is gentle and warm. Rs. 230 (usd 3.1) 9/10 Kaal Soup There’s plenty of coriander and mint in this kaal soup; one can taste the gelatin that’s rendered into the broth. What it lacked though was depth of flavour from the spices, the sort of nourishing jolt that you expect to register on your tastebuds. Rs. 100 (usd 1.4) 7/10 Chicken Fry A tasty homestyle chicken fry, order a portion of this to add additional meaty protein to your biryani. #hoskote #biryani #bangalore mani dum biryani, anand dum biryani, popular hoskote biryani shop, early morning biryani, popular biryani shop,, hosakote, hoskote, bangalore, bengaluru, mutton biryani, biryani trail, inspiring stories, karnataka The Hoskote early morning biryani draws hundreds of faithful fans who wake up at an unearthly hour every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday to make the 40-km trek to queue up at biryani shops in this town just outside Bengaluru. However, for those not completely in the know, some of the most commonly asked questions with respect to this long-standing biryani tradition are: What’s the fuss about the Hoskote biryani? Which biryani should one try, should one try the Mani Biryani or the Anand Biryani? How different are these biryanis? Or are they similar? Which one is spicy, which one is not? What goes into the making of these hugely popular biryanis? Which one came first? And more… In this special Gourmet On The Road episode, we revisit these biryanis and compare side by side Hoskote’s most popular early morning biryanis, undoubtedly, in an attempt to answer many of the questions posed. Hope you enjoy this one; take care, stay safe and happy eating! Anand Mutton Biryani The dominant flavours in this biryani are that of the fresh ingredients, the naati ginger, garlic, coriander, mint etc., followed by a veil of the aromatic spices. Every grain of rice is imbued with its flavours, and the meat is a combination of some soft, juicy pieces and some on the bone, that calls for a bit of effort to get to every bit of it, some fat included. The spicing is gentle and warm. Rs. 230 (usd 3.1) 9/10 Mutton Biryani The only dish made at Mani Dum Biryani, is unique in its aroma that is redolent of an amalgam of spices combined with meat. Each grain of the rice has absorbed the procession of spices that go into the pot and the fat that is rendered from the meat, this is the sort of biryani that leaves behind a spicy impression on the palate. You can taste the heat of green chillies, and the flavour of the secret spice mix that’s made in Mani’s home. Some of the meat is laced with fat that melts in the warmth of one’s mouth, some pieces though can have a bit of a bite. This is a spicy biryani, and the mosaru bhajji, onion and cucumber raitha helps cool things down. Rs. 230 (usd 3.1) 9/10 Kripal Amanna, Gourmet On The Road, Food Lovers TV TIMINGS: 6am to 930am on Tuesday, Friday and Sundays only. The biryani can run out early at times. Note: It can get crowded, especially on Sundays. Get early to beat a long queue.
