However, we learnt that Chitradurga Mirchi Mandakki, an inspiring street food story, was overwhelmed with customers after our video, so I decided to venture out to see this response for myself and to also encourage the family behind this enterprise. Against this backdrop, we were moved to hear of the struggles of a young engineering student who almost single handedly, with his mother, embarked upon a street cart venture to rescue his father and family from a crippling financial setback. And in the course of doing so, reconnected his father with a delicious North Karnataka snack tradition. In this street food episode, I stop by at Chitradurga Girmit Mandakki Centre to meet Ullas Basavaraju and his father, and also taste the Chitradurga mirchi in a scrumptiously delicious spicy avatar, some girmit mandakki masala and a rather intriguingly named ‘operation bajji’!
