Welcome to a new show on Food Lovers TV, where we seek to explore diverse strands of a city’s culinary landscape in a single episode. In our first tour, we visit Mysuru, a city that has always held an allure for travellers, for its majestic charm steeped in royal heritage, architecture and its proud traditions. Alongside its fabled eateries and shops that have stood the test of time, the city has also witnessed the birth of new age bakeries, cafes and food concepts. In the first show in this series, we explore a decades old popular biryani at RRR followed by a visit to SAPA Bakery that in a short span of only four years has endeared itself to the hearts of locals and travellers alike. A trip to Mysuru is incomplete without a taste of the Mysuru Pak, and we explore myriad flavours of this mithai at its source, Guru Sweets. Followed by a market outing to taste bananas including one that enjoys a GI tg. There’s more in this episode, hope you enjoy it. Do let us know your thoughts in the comments. #IndianSweets #Desserts #GourmetOnTheRoad No visit to Mysore is complete without tasting the city’s most popular sweetmeat, the Mysore Pak! This concoction, born in the royal palaces of Mysore, takes only 4 ingredients to make, namely, gram flour, sugar, turmeric, and plenty of ghee! In this episode of Gourmet On The Road, Food Lovers’ Editor Kripal Amanna samples various versions of the Mysore Pak across the city. The first Mysore Pak he samples is at Guru Sweet Mart. This sweet shop is run by the fifth generation of the family descended from Kakkasura Madappa, the chef at the royal palace, widely regarded as the inventor of the Mysore Pak. He then moves on to Shree Mahalakshmi Sweets, a sweet shop that specializes in varieties of Mysore Pak. Here he samples the Milk Mysore Pak, the Badam (Almond) Mysore Pak and the Kaju (Cashew) Mysore Pak. GURU SWEETS Vanaspati Mysore pak made with vanaspati or vegetable oil. It has a hard, crumbly texture. 7/10 Rs 280/ kg Special Mysore pak made with pure ghee. Has a luscious, dissolve-in-the-mouth texture. You can feel the rich ghee coat your palate! 10/10 Rs. 400/ kg SHREE MAHALAKSHMI SWEETS Ghee mysore pak It’s soft to the touch. Beautiful, luscious melt in the mouth quality! 9/10 Rs. 483/ kg Milk mysore pak Texture-wise, very similar to the ghee mysore pak. You have the flavour of khova or milk solids running through every bite. 8/10 Rs. 504/Kilo Badam mysore pak You definitely taste the almond. Almost feels like a drier badam halwa. You have the grainy bite from the almonds, but this still is a buttery, luscious mysore pak! 10/10 Rs. 670/Kilo Kaju mysore pak you can taste the slight nuttiness of cashew and slight graininess in texture. This mysore pak has more of a bite. 9/10 Rs. 650/Kilo Vanaspati mysore pak This mysore pak is hard and crumbly. it doesn't have the richness of the ghee but it certainly has the flavour of the besan and sugar. 7/10 Rs. 294/Kilo GURU SWEETS ADDRESS - Shop No: 1, Devaraja Market Building, Near K.R.
