#nagarjuna #takeaway #andhrafood support local eateries, takeaway, nagarjuna, koramangala, vegetarian lunch, banana leaf meal, chilly chicken, sholay kebab, andhra restaurant, traditional eatery, koramangala, bangalore, bengaluru In this throwback episode, we visit Nagarjuna, a popular Andhra eatery, to order and take away their popular vegetarian carrier meals, post temperature checks, hand sanitisation and electronic payment, time-appropriate practices that we will need to get used to. The food, packed in tamper proof containers and relished in the comfort of our home, though remains as comforting as one remembers it from the good old days. Hope you enjoy our this one, take care, stay safe and strong. Note: This episode was first released in May 2020 and is being rerun to support Bengaluru eateries with takeaway orders in the current situation. Please do support local eateries. Vegetarian Carrier Meals This weighty meal can feed an army, well, at least 3 to 4 hungry diners. The food is staple Nagarjuna fare with creamy lentils pappu, nourishing sambar, tangy tomato rasam, teh customary koora or vegetable with all the mandatory accoutrements - pappulu podi, curd chillies, payasam, papad, pickle and more served with a humongous bucket of rice. Rs. 420 (usd 5.5) 8/10 Chicken Sholay Kebab One of Nagarjuna’s most popular boneless chicken appetisers is embellished with loads of curry leaves. The flavours seem a bit sedate in takeaway mode when the dish is eaten around 30 minutes or so after it’s prepared, as compared to the spicy, aggressive bite one encountered when eating this at the restaurant. A tasty bite nonetheless. Rs. 305 (usd 4) 7/10 Chilly Chicken The chilli, spelt with a ‘y’ as opposed to an ‘i’ on the menu is as unique as the dish in itself. Not to be confused with the popular Sino-Indian version, this is Andhra’s ode to its love affair with the chilli. The chicken is moist and juicy, soaking up a gravy made of copious amounts of green chillies, a dish that will have you begging for more punishment if that’s your thing! Definitely not for the faint-hearted though! Rs. 285 (usd 3.8) 8/10 Note: Due to the current uncertain situation, please call the eatery to ascertain the timings and what is available. Prices may have changed since when this episode was originally published a year ago. #BestAndhraBiryani #Bangalore #GourmetOnTheRoad Most Popular Biryani Restaurants In Namma Bengaluru. Best Restaurants For Spicy Andhra Biryani In Bangalore. Widely famous for their Andhra & Hyderabadi style of biryanis, Nagarjuna and Meghana Foods are often pitted against each other. Without surprise both these eateries have a devoted following, most who swear-by the biryanis. Nagarjuna, an establishment that was set up in the early 1980s serves two Andhra-style, dum biryanis, a Mutton and a Chicken while Meghana Foods, a relatively new eatery serves an array of biryani to choose from, the most popular of which is a spicy, Chicken Boneless Biryani. In this episode of Gourmet On The Road, Food Lovers Editor, Kripal Amanna, tastes both biryanis at Nagarjuna and three of the crowd favourites at Meghana Foods, reviewing what makes each of these biryanis special. In conclusion, he tells viewers what could be the biryani for them based on their preferences! GOURMET ON THE ROAD RATINGS CHICKEN BIRYANI studded with a fair bit of whole spices - cloves, cardamom and cinnamon, which gives the biryani rice a fulsome flavour that serves well to embrace the chicken. rs 265 8/10 MUTTON BIRYANI the rice is similar in flavour to the chicken biryani, but the spices here seem more accentuated. The meat is soft, you can taste the gamey flavours of the fat. rs 305 8.5/10 CHICKEN BONELESS BIRYANI made with long grain basmati rice, each grain is separate. topped with boneless chicken morsels coated in a thick, spirited masala, this is a biryani you can definitely share. rs 248 8/10 CHICKEN DUM BIRYANI served with a leg of chicken that is coated in a savoury, caramelised onion masala that threads through the long grained rice. the meat is cooked to the bone and is flavourful. a biryani that leaves you more than satisfied! rs 242 8.5/10 MUTTON BIRYANI the spicing in meghana biryanis is apparent on the palate, but absent on the plate. one sees no hint of any of the spices that have gone into the dish, but you can taste its presence. the masala in the mutton biryani is mellower than in the chicken version, allowing the flavour of the meat to take precedence. rs 301 8/10 ADDRESS - Nagarjuna, 138, 1st Cross Rd, KHB Colony, 5th Block, Koramangala, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560 095; LOCATION TAG - https://maps.app.goo.gl/SpakUTUDED1wd45Q7 ADDRESS - Meghana Foods, Jyoti Nivas College Road NearJyoti Nivas College, No. 124, 1st Cross Rd, KHB Colony, 5th Block, Koramangala, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560095 LOCATION TAG - https://goo.gl/maps/cCxWRFu3X1k1H9vS6 We guard the independent voice of our editorial features fiercely.
